The Japanese parliament accepted ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader, Yoshihide Suga, as the 99th Prime Minister on Wednesday.
Since 2012, Suga was the Chief Cabinet Secretary and served as the government spokesperson.
He was amongst the five individuals peaked to supersede former premier, Shinzo Abe.
Later August, Abe resigned for health issues.
Mr.Suga, 71, faces the challenge of tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy.
He promised to continue Abe’s policies and is awaited to reappoint many of the current cabinet members.
They include Finance Minister, Toshimitsu Motegi, Taro Aso and Foreign Minister.
Aso, 79, was the Deputy Prime Minister under Abe.
