The federal ministry of transportation has incorporated a committee to draw up guidelines for the donation of the N10billion federal government alleviating fund for road transport operators and workers. This was made known by Senator Gbemisola Saraki the minister of state for transportation, on Thursday, September 10.
The minister made the announcement when she welcomed the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Najumdeen Yasin, and his successor, Professor Tajudeen Ibikunle Lawal in her office. Attested by her, members of the committee are drawn from the ministry of transportation and all other relevant stakeholders in the transportation sector.
She compelled the unions to interface towards having one recognized body that the ministry can deal with so that the funds can be allocated as soon as possible. She acclaimed that palliative as the name implies when over delayed defeats the intent and purposes of the initiative. In a similar development, the federal government on Thursday, September 10 flagged-off two schemes to cushion the effects of COVID-19 and save over 100,000 small businesses in the country. Minister of industry trade and investment Ambassador Mariam Katagum, flagged-off the schemes after orienting journalists in Abuja and revealed that over 1.7 million Nigerians will be positively impacted by the initiative.
In the meantime, the federal government has explained its decision to fully remove subsidy from petrol, saying the country stands to rake in over N1 trillion annually from the initiative. Minister of state for petroleum resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, made the comment on Thursday, September 10 while speaking to select journalists in Abuja. As stated by him,the funds would be deployed to fund other critical components of the economy.
