Lazio’s Ciro Immobile took the accolade in 2019-20, finishing ahead of Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, Timo Werner, and Lionel Messi, but intense competition means he will have to fight to retain it.
That posse will no doubt be to the fore in the goal charts again this season, as well as other contenders like Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is rolling back the years at AC Milan.
